Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week 2024

In support of the national Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, a coordinated approach took place last week in areas that see high levels of visitors and anti-social behaviour from Leicester Square, and into Soho and Covent Garden, to provide advice and support to the community, as well as enforcement work at peak periods.

Working together, the teams included HOLBA’s My Local Bobbies, The Met’s Town Centre Team and the West End Police Team, Westminster City Council’s City Inspectors and Safer Business Network.

On Tuesday, the partnership undertook a cycle safety and enforcement operation, which resulted in:

  • 1 arrest for immigration violation
  • 1 stop and search for drugs
  • 1 stop and search for stolen goods
  • 5 cyclists processed for riding on the highway
  • 24 educational interactions with cyclists
  • 3 outreach referrals

On Wednesday, a Community Safety & Crime Prevention event was held in Leicester Square and Covent Garden. The teams engaged with over 185 members of the public and business community to educate and combat anti-social behaviour, enhancing public safety.

On Friday evening, Community Based Volunteers worked alongside The Met in Leicester Square and Soho to speak with over 300 people in 2 hours, sharing advice and leaflets on crime and theft prevention.

In addition to the ASB focus, real impact was made through a number of arrests. From Friday to Sunday, 23 arrests were made regarding burglary, abuse, immigration, theft, possession of class A drugs, criminal damage and common assault. In addition to multiple Pedicab riders reported for various traffic offences.

HOLBA’s commitment is to create an environment that is clean, safe and well-managed, elevating the experience for everyone.
