The Crown Estate and Grosvenor lead the way on improving accessibility in the built environment

Friday 11 October: The Crown Estate and Grosvenor have launched a new report ‘Inclusive Spaces and Places: A collaborative approach to inclusive design’ which highlights the challenge of limited accessibility impacting a huge proportion of the population and the urgent need for inclusive design in the built environment.

The report which addresses the issue, offers property owners and developers a chance to drive change to prevent individuals with diverse needs feeling overlooked and discriminated against and improve their overall experience across buildings and places, making it less challenging and isolating.

Newly launched tools include an inclusive design brief for the industry to utilise with technical guidance and prompts for design teams to ensure projects are inclusive, and a template for a creative and inclusive design panel of people with lived experience which will be used across all new developments within their respective portfolios.

A new working group – The Accessible and Inclusive Places Industry Group has also been instated to drive change and commitments have already been made to the recommendations in the report by founding members, British Land, Lendlease, Cadogan, Landsec and Heathrow.
