Art of London launches Brighter Future

Tuesday 9 August: Heart of London’s consumer art initiative, Art of London has today launched its latest campaign “Brighter Future.”

Launched by comedian Harry Hill, “Brighter Future” is a brand-new art commission developed with the National Gallery X, on display from August to October 2022.

The artwork will be on display to everyone who lives, works, and visits the West End this summer. The winning artists, Zarah Hussain, Fiona Quadri, Sam Williams and Sofia Clausse were selected by an expert panel of judges across the arts and culture sector including Art of London, NGX and Arts Council England.

Supported by Westminster City Council, Art of London’s installations will form part of their Inside Out Festival which aims to bring art, entertainment, and culture to the streets of Westminster.

Mark Williams, Director of Art of London, said: “After a brilliant first year for The Art of London Season, it’s so exciting to come back with a campaign celebrating joy and optimism for the future. We’re delighted to harness the creativity and vision of these incredible artists and once again transform the streets of the West End into their very own art canvases which visitors can enjoy and experience too.”

Zarah Hussain, artist and winner of the Art of London Brighter Future R&D grant, said: “Working on this project with Art of London over the last couple of months has been a joy. I wanted to create a piece of art that encourages people to look to the future with real positivity, and seeing it take shape on some of London’s busiest streets is an honour.”

Fiona Quadri, artist and fellow winner of the Art of London Brighter Future R&D grant, said: “Art brings people together in many ways, but mostly by how it makes people feel. I wanted my installation to bring people closer together by celebrating diversity, inclusivity and the multitude of identities, which I think it achieves. I hope the public feel that connection and sense of celebration when they see it.”

Chris Michaels, Director of Digital, Communications & Technology at The National National Gallery, said: “It’s a privilege to help facilitate such a powerful campaign and give the public access to creative, progressive art in some of the world’s most iconic locations. Art and technology has the power to transform how we see the world around us and we’re excited to see these installations come to life in the West End”.
