Sustainability Hub

The Sustainability Hub gives easy access to a wealth of resources that will assist your business in making progress towards reducing your carbon impact.

Net Zero Strategy

Climate change and related environmental challenges have a direct impact on how people experience the Heart of London area and the performance of the West End economy. We are therefore committed to working in partnership to migrate the West End to a net zero carbon economy, supporting our businesses’ transition to even more sustainable ways of operating and support Westminster’s target to reach net zero by 2040.

Member Sustainability Toolkit

Working in partnership with Veolia, HOLBA has developed an easy-to-use menu of services to support our members with reducing carbon emissions.

Supplied by Veolia, the six services include

Sustainability audits

Using virtual reality (VR) with buildings data, members can access Sustainability Audits. These audits will review your business’s carbon and wider environmental impacts across energy use, waste and recycling, carbon reduction, servicing and deliveries and water use, whilst identifying savings that can be possibly made. A comprehensive report will be provided that will advise on actions to take alongside your roadmap to net zero.

Net zero carbon delivery support

Members can access bespoke support and project management from Veolia on the delivery of actions provided from your sustainability audit. The service includes retrofitting, access to Veolia’s management system Hubgrade, street servicing and deliveries consolidation, compliance, funding advice and detailed energy audits.

Waste reduction and recycling services and advice

Commercial Waste Services provided by Westminster City Council and Veolia offers members 10% discount on waste services and 20% discount on recycling services. Conducted by a predominantly electric powered fleet, using the same provider contributes to the reduction in fewer vehicles on the road and better air quality. Members can also access free advice on the ‘Simple Recycling’ changes which are being introduced by the Government from 31 March 2025.

Circular economy advice, solutions and products

Alongside providing advice to businesses, Veolia can help you switch to circular economy ways of working with products such as seating, flower beds, street bins and sculptures.

Electric vehicle infrastructure

Members can access a range of electric vehicle charging solutions to meet carbon reduction targets and contribute to improving air quality in the West End.

Biodiversity monitoring

Technology, provided by Leko in partnership with Veolia records sounds to determine the presence of wildlife to gather data and promote biodiversity. This non-invasive monitoring tool provides data-informed recommendations and is housed in a wooden box that is safe from the elements.

“The race to net zero is the economic opportunity of the 21st Century. HOLBA’s Net Zero Carbon Strategy will help West End businesses with their plans to achieve it. London’s businesses continues to show how we can continue to grow our economy while both mitigating the impact, and adapting to the reality of climate change.” Mete Coban MBE
Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy
“Beyond delivering essential services, Veolia is committed to supporting London’s transition to a net zero city by 2030. The Net Zero Sustainability Toolkit is a one stop shop for HOLBA members to help navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead to achieve a more sustainable future for everyone. We are delighted to work in partnership with HOLBA to provide this essential resource for West End businesses.” Pascal Hauret
Municipal Managing Director at Veolia
“HOLBA has been invaluable at introducing us to the BCC and helping us navigate the process from the very start. Their monthly meetings were really useful at keeping everyone on track and allowing participants to compare experiences and challenges, and they very helpfully responded to participants’ suggestions by organizing workshops to provide practical information on topics that multiple participants were struggling with.”

Westminster Sustainable City Charter

HOLBA are proud participants in the Sustainable City Charter. We encourage members to sign-up to the charter here.

Supported by Westminster Property Association and Westminster City Council, the charter encourages sustainable working practices across non-domestic buildings in Westminster and contains eight commitments for reducing carbon emissions.

These include:

  • Energy use
  • Procurement
  • Transport
  • Waste and deliveries
  • A commitment to net zero buildings by 2040

Sustainability Group

Our group meets quarterly to discuss issues and bring together ideas and actions. We welcome guest speakers and will be reporting on HOLBA and Veolia’s success measures in the West End. The only commitment needed to attend is a commitment to work towards net zero. To join, email: katie@holba.london.
