Amy Lamé – night surgery

On Thursday 12 May, Heart of London Business Alliance hosted an evening walkabout with Mayor of London’s Night Czar, Amy Lamé.

The walkabout presented an opportunity for Amy and our Chief Executive, Ros Morgan to speak with the wide range of businesses that form the night-time economy, and hear of their experiences and the key challenges that their industry and workers face.

Some of the challenges cover soaring energy prices, staff shortages, reduction in footfall as a result of hybrid working and increased overheads as business rates support is removed.

The itinerary included short meet and greets at a handful of our member businesses including, St James’s Church Piccadilly, Waterstones, Odeon and the ENO London Coliseum.

As the West End’s night-time economy builds itself back up to pre-pandemic level, our members were excited to discuss the role they can play and share their ideas.

Our members welcomed Transport for London’s recent confirmation that the Night Tube will be fully reinstated by the end of the summer. This will ensure night-time workers are able to travel to their places of work and also contribute to a steady increase in footfall.
