Heart of London supports Ramadan Lights for the second consecutive year
Heart of London Business Alliance supports the Aziz Foundation for the second year in a row to launch Ramadan Lights in central London, marking the start of the month of Ramadan.
The display in the West End will illuminate Coventry Street between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square until Tuesday 16th April 2024.
With over 30,000 lights on display, the installation is inspired by one of the defining features of Ramadan; the daily transition of dawn and dusk. Entitled ‘Sundial’ the concept is inspired by the rays of light at sunrise and conversely, the light of the moon after dark which signify the start and end of the fasting period.
This year’s display will showcase ‘Happy Ramadan’ messaging at the start of the month, but transform towards the end of the month to say ‘Happy Eid’, becoming the first lights display in a major European city to mark Eid al Fitr, the culmination of Ramadan.
Our Chief Executive, Ros Morgan, said: “Following the success of last year, the heart of London will again be transformed with a light display in celebration of the month of Ramadan. The West End is multi-cultural, renowned for its inclusivity, and diversity of people and this is a great way to celebrate. The lights are a new bespoke design, that successfully capture traditional and modern in a beautiful display of over 30,000 lights. Last year’s lights were wonderful, but this year’s display is even better. They will draw crowds from across the country and millions of images will be shared across the globe.”
